Denver has many fun things to do and see. And I will have to admit this stands in real contrast to the Denver I first knew 30-plus years ago.

Back then, Denver had the U.S. Mini and Elitch Gardens and that was about it. Of course, Elitch Gardens, the original Elitch Gardens, was so much fun for families that we almost forgot there wasn't much else to do. It had a great roller coaster, kiddy rides, the Wild Mouse, trees, flowers and a neat picnic area. We used to go with two or three other families, stake out a picnic table, go on the rides and then come back to the picnic area for iced tea, friend chicken and all the fixins.

It was great fun and not that expensive.

The old Elitch Gardens is lone gone. In its place we have Six Flags Elitch Gardens, which is a great amusement park but, well, it just doesn't have the same feeling as the old Elitch's.

Denver still has the U.S. Mint, and the old Natural History Museum is now the bigger and better Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Plus, we have a great aquarium, a botanic garden, and six major league sports franchises.
