DIA is one of America's newest and most popular airports. In fact, in 2005, more than 0,000,000 passengers passed through DIA. It is a major hub for United Airlines and the home of Frontier Airlines. Southwest Airlines recently began service to and from Denver, and 00 other airlines have flights to and from DIA. Save Up To $75 on Last Minute Deals at Travelocity!
What to expect
The first thing to expect when you land at DIA is a long trip to your baggage. First, you'll walk down your concourse to a central area. It is at this area where you will find the stairs you need to go down to catch the underground train to the actual terminal. When you reach the terminal, you will need to walk to the baggage carousels. Your carousel will be located on either the east and west side of the terminal – depending on which airline you flew. As you walk towards the entrances to the baggage carousels, you should see signs identifying which carousel will have your baggage by airline name and flight number.
Note: Gate numbering at DIA can be confusing For example, on the B Concourse (home of United), the gates furthest from the center of the concourse have the highest numbers. However, on the west side, the lower the gate number, the further you are from the center of the concourse.
Transportation
If you will be renting a car at DIA, the on-site car rental counters are located on Level 5 in the Jeppesen (main) Terminal. This is the same level as where you pick up your luggage. There are 10 on-site car rental companies on Level 5.

Shuttle Service
Free Hotel Shuttles
Hotels located near DIA provide free shuttle service. Their buses pick up passengers on Level 3. There are two groups of hotels near DIA. One group is located around 54th Ave. and Pena Blvd. These hotels are about about 10-15 minutes away from the airport. The other is clustered near where Stapleton Airport used to be – at I-70 and Quebec. These hotels are about 20-25 minutes away from DIA. If you will be spending most of your time in downtown Denver, you may want to select one of the hotels on Quebec as this puts you much closer to the downtown area.
Private Shuttles
Denver had a number of private shuttle companies. My favorite is Super Shuttle (800-525-3177). It offers service to just about any hotel in the metro area and its fares are reasonable.
Public Transportation
If you will be staying at a downtown Denver hotel, you may want to take a bus to the downtown area. Our bus service provider is the RTD (Regional Transportation District). All RTD operations are outside Door 511 on the East Side of Jeppesen Terminal, Level 5, Island 5. You can get schedule information on buses to downtown Denver (or any other area) by calling 800-366-7433.
Limousines
If you would like to rent a limo to get around Denver, you're in luck. Denver has literally dozens of limousine companies. Click here for a list of these companies and their contact numbers.http://www.flydenver.com/gt/search.asp
Taxi Cabs
Taxi service is also available to and from DIA. You can pick up a taxi on Level 5, Island 1. Denver's largest taxicab companies are Yellow Cab (303) 777-7777) and Metro Taxi (303-333-3333). Be aware that a cab ride to downtown Denver isn't cheap. Yellow Cab charges $43.00 plus a $3.25 gate fee, plus $1.00 for every passenger beyond the first. So, if you are a family of four, count on spending $49.25 to get to downtown Denver.
Denver Weather Denver has more moderate winters than you might expect. For example, the temperature in Denver in January averages a high of about 30 degrees degrees and a low of 26. The high in Decemberaverages 31 degrees and in February, the high is usually around 33 degrees.
Now, having said that, here comes my warning: There is no typical in Denver. I can remember a February 3rd when the temperature was 15o below zero, and I have seen snow in April and September. The secret to handling the weather in Denver is be prepared and this means be prepared to dress in layers.
For example, I often play golf in January (that's right, you can actually golf year 'round here). When I do, I often wear a long-sleeved tee shirt, a sweater and a wind shirt. That way, I can take off layers as the day grows warmer or, conversely, put them back on if the temperature starts to drop.
One final note on the weather. Don't worry too much about snow. We only get about 12” of precipitation a year – and that's both rain and snow. So, the odds are against you running into a severe snow storm. Of course, itcould happen.
How to dress for Denver
Assuming you will be visiting here in the fall or winter, I suggest long-sleeved shirts, a sweater anda medium-weight jacket.
