Public Transportation

While movie theaters have deserted the downtown areas of many citiesBest Denver VacationPublic transportation

If you'd rather not rent a car, there are several other ways to get around Denver.

Take a taxi

The first, and probably easiest, is to grab a cab. You can almost always find taxis hanging out around the major downtown hotels, including the Adams Mark, the Brown Palance, and the brand new Hyatt Regency at the Convention Center.

If you need to call a cab, there are two companies I recommend:

Yellow Cab
303-777-7777

Metro Taxi
303-333-3333

Hop on a bus, Gus

Bus service in Denver is provided by RTD (Regional Transportation District), and you can take a bus just about anywhere. A ticket to ride RTD costs $1.50.

RTD has a neat trip planner which you can access at http://www.rtd-denver.com. All you need ot do is put in your “From” and your “To,” and RTD will develop an Itinerary for you. For example, if you wanted to catch a bus in the area of the Brown Palace Hotel arpimd 1100 AM to go to the Denver Zoo, the Trip Planner would tell you to:

Go to Bus Stop At: Welton St & 17th St, DENVER
Get On Bus: #32 / 32 UNIV HOSPTAL 32 via DOWNTOWN at 10:19AM (Next Bus At 10:49AM)
Get Off the Bus At: Denver Zoo, DENVER at 10:33AM

Travel Time : 14 minutes

Try our Light Rail

We have one line of light rail up and running and another is scheduled to begin service in November.

The one existing line runs between Five Points (near downtown Denver) or Coors Field to Highlands Ranch, which is southwest of the downtown area. My recommendation is that you take the Light Rail (it's also run by RTD) to Littleton.

You can pick up Light Rail at 18th and California, 16th and California or at the Convention Center. The one-way fare is #1.50.

When you get off at the Littleton-Downtown station you can walk around the downtown Littleton area, where you will find fun, funky shops and several restaurants, including the Melting Pot (fondueu only), Abe's Cafe (for a quick lunch), The Half Moon Bay Restaurant or the Iris Cafe.
