Downtown Denver Hotels
New Page 2New Page 1
There are seven “major” hotels in the downtown Denver area. They are all close to attractions such as the Pepsi Center, Coors Field, the Downtown Aquarium and Six Flags Elitch Gardens. However, only Coors Field is within walking distance (and it is a bit of a walk). You may want to ride Light Rail to Coors and will want to either take a cab or ride Light Rail to the other attractions.
The newest of these major hotels is the 1,000 room Hyatt Regency at the Convention Center which just opened in December, 2005.
I call these major hotels as they are basically part of major chains such as Hyatt, Marriott and Westin. In addition, each has more than 400 rooms and offers a complete suite of amenities, including wireless Internet service , restaurants, lounges and coffee shops, room service, big and small meeting rooms, and business centers. All of them are just about what you would expect – big, clean, well-appointed, professionally-staffed and, well, sort of homogenized.

Brown Palace
321 17th St.
(303) 297-3111
The Brown palace is my all-time favorite Denver hotel. It is the “grande dame” of Denver hotels, having first opened its doors 111 years ago. Over the course of these years, the Brown (this is what old-time Denverites call it) has played host to presidents, kings, and queens, and dignitaries such as Winston Churchill, as well as rock stars like the Spice Girls.
Presidents who have stayed at the Brown include Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan..
The Brown palace has long stood as the pride of luxury hotels in Denver and is the city's only Four-Star and AAA Four-Diamond hotel. It features a truly great restaurant, the Palace Arms, Ellyngton's, the Churchill Bar, a Lobby Tea in the afternoons, and the Ship Tavern, one of Denver;s all-time favorite watering holes. Lasts year (2005), the Brown added a $2 million Spa for skin care, massage therapy, and hair and nail services for both women and men.
The Brown palace is luxury and personal service at its finest and rooms are priced accordingly. For example, it lists its best room rate in June, 2006 as $285 and its average senior rate as 315.00
