Shopping
Do you like to shop
Do you like to shop? Is spending a couple of hours wandering through an upscale mall your idea of a good way to spend time?
If this is the case, you'll find a lot of great places to shop and browse in Denver. In fact, I would say that we have shopping for just about every imaginable taste, from high-fashion clothes and high-end jewelry to outdoor gear and discount electronics.
An easy walk
If you're staying in downtown Denver, you're probably just a short walk away from shopping on the 16th St. mall. This pedestrian-friendly area stretches for 16 blocks from Wynkoop and Union Station on the northwest to Broadway on the southeast. Most of Denver's big downtown hotels are just a few blocks from the Mall. It is also home of The Pavilions, which includes the Pavilions 16-theater multiplex. Sponsor Links We also have a fun shopping area called Larimer Square which is basically oneblock of Larimer St. between 14th and 15th Streets. Larimer was the first streetin Denver and the Larimer Square block been restored to look much like it did inthe 1800s. While Larimer Square may be only a block long, it's packed withshops, nightclubs, and galleries set among Victorian gaslights, buildings, andcourtyards -- a really fun place to stroll, shop and dine.
A short drive
If you have a car or don't mind taking a taxi (or bus), there's a great shopping mall just about 15 minutes southeast of the downtown area called Cherry Creek Mall. This mall features upscale stores, including Neiman Marcus, and provides a rich and varied shopping experience. To get to Cherry Creek Mall from downtown Denver, just take Lawrence or Stout St. west to Speer Blvd. Turn left on Speer (south) and go to 1st ave. The Mall is located off Speer on 1st Ave., between Clayton and Milwaukee Streets. While you're at Cherry Creek Mall, make sure you also visit the Cherry Creek North shopping area. It is north of the Mall and runs roughly between University Ave. on the west and Monroe St. on the east and between 1st Ave. on the south and E. 4th Ave. on the north. You can walk around the area and enjoy its many funky and not-so-funky stores. While you're at it, be sure to stop in Denver's famous Tattered Cover Bookstore at 1st Ave., between Fillmore and Milwaukee Streets. It offers three floors of books, as well as magazines and newspapers from all over the world.
Two in the suburbs
Two malls I like in the suburbs are Park Meadows and Flatiron Crossings Mall.
Park Meadows is located in Lonetree – about 30 minutes from the downtown area. Like Cherry Creek Mall, Park Meadows offers a variety of shops and stores but does not have stores that are quite as upscale as Cherry Creek Mall..
Despite its distance from the downtown area, it is fairly easy to get to. Just take Auraria Parkway west to I-25. Take I-25 south to County Line Rd. Turn west (right) onto Country Line Rd. and look for S. Park Meadows Center Dr. Turn left on this street and this will take you directly to the Mall.
The other mall I suggest is FlatIron Crossings Mall. It is also at least 30 minutes from the downtown area and, like Park Meadows, offers a wide variety of stores and shops. To get to this mall, take Auraria Parkway west to I-25. Go north on I-25 to U.S. #36 (Denver-Boulder Turnpike). Take #36 west to W. Flatiron Circle. Turn left onto the Circle and this will take you to the Mall.
